Passing the PSM III exam is a professional milestone for many Scrum Masters.
The certificate is the crowning glory of an intensive learning journey.
The many hours spent sifting through countless pages of Scrum literature will be a thing of the past. Gone are the hours spent reflecting on your practical experience with Scrum. No more brooding over why an agile practice worked under certain conditions but failed in others. Passing the PSM III exam certifies advanced knowledge of Scrum and extensive experience with the professional application of Scrum.

With only 1,194 PSM III certificate holders worldwide, reaching this professional milestone significantly boosts your market value. When you compare the 675,381 PSM I and 45,532 PSM II holders to the group of 1,194 PSM III professionals, it becomes clear:
By passing the most demanding assessment offered by Scrum.org, you set yourself apart from nearly every other Scrum Master in the world. This is a distinction that recruiters, clients, and executives can no longer ignore when it comes to internal promotions, project assignments, and salary negotiations.
Why many Scrum Masters still hesitate
However, the numbers also reveal one thing: many Scrum Masters still shy away from taking the assessment.
The most common reasons are:
Lack of Direction: Many Scrum Masters have long wanted to embark on the journey toward PSM III but don't know what the first step should be. All they’ve heard so far is that strong English skills and fast typing are essential.
Overwhelmed by Choice: Some have already decided to prepare for the PSM III assessment, but once they begin, they feel lost. While there is an overwhelming number of Scrum courses and books available, they often don’t know which ones truly help in preparing specifically for the PSM III.
Isolation and Lack of Feedback: A few have already started their preparation. They’ve read book after book, but they lack someone to ask them exam-relevant questions and provide feedback on their answers. They are tired of studying in isolation without any guidance.
Do you recognize yourself in any of these points? Then the PSM III Bootcamp is for you.
What you will gain by participating in the PSM III Bootcamp:
At first glance, the PSM III Bootcamp is a course designed to help you think like a Professional Scrum Master and answer profound questions about Scrum and its application precisely under time pressure.

Who leads the PSM III Bootcamp?

Meet Your Instructor: Simon
In late 2018, I registered for the PSM III assessment, having decided a few years earlier that I wanted to become a Professional Scrum Trainer. Following the common advice from Scrum forums, I had read almost every book on Scrum available on the market.
Twenty minutes into the exam, I should have been on question 6. Instead, I hadn’t even finished answering the second one. I struggled to provide content-rich answers. I couldn't manage to get my points across concisely in just a few sentences without constantly rephrasing them. At times, I felt completely overwhelmed, and even simple English words escaped me. In the end, I had only ten minutes left to answer the final seven questions.
The examiner's feedback was blunt:
"...in several cases, your answer lacked the depth needed to get full marks. Brief answers are often best, but there were times where they were too brief."
This setback haunted me for weeks. Eventually, I decided not to give up on my goal and instead sought help. I turned to my mentor, an experienced Professional Scrum Trainer. Through our conversations, I realized where I had gone wrong: I had taken the easy way out. Reading books is pleasant, but it is passive learning. The assessment, however, requires active performance—and that is something you have to learn and practice.
I realized that success in the exam depends on three factors:
Mindset: Thinking like a Professional Scrum Master to trace even complex questions back to the heart of Scrum (Scrum Principles, Scrum Values, and Self-Management).
Precision: Being able to answer even the most difficult questions about Scrum concisely and accurately.
Fluency under Pressure: Being able to "think in English" even under time pressure to formulate correct written responses.
From that moment on, I challenged myself daily to focus on the essentials: answering difficult Scrum questions in writing, precisely and under time constraints. While seeking help, I found many other Scrum Masters struggling with the same preparation hurdles. This community kept me accountable to answer one question every single day.
In late 2019, I passed the assessment with a score of over 90% and was welcomed into the Professional Scrum Trainer community just a few months later.

I remember my PSM III journey vividly—and how overwhelmed I was by the sheer abundance of resources. Another blog post here, deepening the Scrum Values there, a case study over here—and oh, I should probably read that book too. The sheer volume of information was paralyzing, causing me to push the assessment further and further into the future. Finally, a friend gave me the nudge I needed:
"Don't you think it's time for YOU to just take the exam?"
So, I took it—and I failed.
However, the feedback from the grader provided me with invaluable insights and gave me the decisive push I needed for my second attempt. Looking back, my journey to the PSM III—and later to the PSPO III—could have been much simpler:
I could have received continuous feedback throughout the process, instead of just once at the end of the test.
I could have exchanged ideas with like-minded peers, instead of losing myself in a sea of books and articles.
I could have received that nudge to take the assessment much sooner, rather than trying to soak up even more information like a sponge that was already saturated.
So, why shouldn't your path to the PSM III benefit from exactly that kind of support?
It took us many years of our careers to figure out what is truly required to pass the PSM III assessment. It took even more years to fully understand what it means to be an effective Scrum Master.
